Success!
Thank you to everyone that came to the various events for The Cutting Circle! Without you all it wouldn't have been so dynamic or exciting. Thank you Timo Rissanen and Julian Roberts for coming all this way and inspiring us all, and thank you Lilian Mutsaers, Deb Cumming and Jen Whitty for delivering their fantastic workshops. Thank you to Global Fabric for supplying us with our beautiful fabrics, all the student helpers, technical staff and generally useful people who made the event possible.
The 2.5 days included the presentation of Holly McQuillan, Timo Rissanen and Julian Roberts The Cutting Circle research outcomes to participants, industry, media and the general public on Thursday, followed by an exciting 3 hour demonstration of Subtraction Cutting (SubCut) and 2 ways of achieing Zero Waste Design (ZWD) for fashion. The first masterclasses covered in-depth exploration by the participants of either SubCut or ZWD. On Saturday as The Cutting Circle Exhibiton was set up, the 2nd round of masterclasses exploring Fleeflow design processes and Drape all together resulted in an total of over 50 garments. Participants and Jen Whitty, Julian Roberts, Deb Cumming, Timo Rissanen and Holly McQuillan held a forum of lively discussion covering diverse topics as sustainable design education, alternative design processes, 3D printed textiles, the benefits of risk-taking and the possible future of NZ's fashion industry.
